Glorious Revolution.
The aspect which most impressed me was the term Quintas. I found quite interesting that one fifth of all the guys who were over 25 had to join the military service, but nevertheless the fight for equality, people who were wealthy could afford to pay a high amount of money to the State and avoid their offspring from going to battles in which they were intended to die. As a result, only the people who don´t have the money needed are the ones who are serving to the Nation and protecting it. I think that taking into account that they were all fighting for equality this shouldn´t be allowed because it just represents the opposite of it. Also, I think that quintas should have been abolished as all people have the right to decide whether they want to fight in battles o not, instead of just being forced to it.

In my opinion it’s a really nice video that helped me to understand the context extraorndinarilly well. I do not have a favourite part. Actually, probably the begining, when the Queen is sent into exile, and the Spanish people felt freed from the restrictions. The importance step they did introducing more liberal reforms such as the universal suffrage, although I obviously don’t agree with the impedimence over women to vote, reflected wonderfully in the video. What I do not understand is why they ask for another King when they got into exile the Queen. It seems like we are dependant of one.
On the other side I enjoyedd the Cuban Independence. I know it was a tragedy for Spain, but they fought quite a lot for their independence with ‘guerrillas’. And once again I don’t agree with the system in which most of the soldiers were poor because the rich could pay to the state. That is not really fair at all from my side of view.

GLORIOUS REVOLUTION SPAIN
In the video we can see the facts happened between 1968 until 1870
• The pronunciamiento made by Topete, Prim and Serrano that explain the reasons of it in a document with a very funny name “Viva España con honra”
• The pronunciamiento was followed by a popular revolution, the Glorious, in which revolutionary juntas were formed all over country.
• The army loyal to Isabell II was defeated in the Battle of Alcolea and Isabella II had to exile, she was only 38 years old.
• After the overthrow of Isabella a Provisional government was formed leaded by Serrano.
• Provisional govemernt called elections by universal suffrage: males over 25 years old.
• The new Cortes drafted a Constitution in 1869: democratic: universal suffrage for men the firs time in Spanish history, recognised freedom of press, religion, right to meet and associate but also established a parliamentary monarchy as a form of state.
• Serrano was named regent and Prim had to find a new monarch. Amadeo of Savoy was elected by Prim and proclaimed by the Cortes, but 1/3 of members prefer the Republic.
• A few days before the new king came, Prim was assassinated.
• In Cuba began a insurrection.
I am surprised to know about the “quintas” as a system to get people to the war and the possibility to afford it paying money, so only the poor people go to the war.

I started liking the video at the end, with the assassination of Prim. Not that I like the fact that one men died but it was just like a film. As many people, did not like the idea of having again a monarchy, someone ordered the murder of Prim, exactly two days before the arrival of the new king leaving Amadeo of Savoy without his principle support, as he was elected by Prim.
Other fact that called my attention in the video was the term Quintas. It was so unfair that just poor people went to war because they did not have money enough to pay the State and avoid going to War. This means that the ones who didn’t have money were the ones protecting the Nation, they were very brave men but still considered disgusting because they did not have money. And men which did have money didn’t went to war but everyone respected them due to their money, meaning that money is the most important thing.

This video is really helpful, as it explains clearly all what happened during that period of time (1868-1870), which were a lot of inportant events for the history not only of our country, but to other states, as Cuba: the pronunciamiento of Topete in Cádiz, the spread of the Revolution, the exile of the queen, the creation of the provisional government and writing of the Constitution, the Cuban insurrection and at last the election of Amadeo of Savoy as king of Spain, followed by the assassination of Prim.
There are two facts that surprised me enormously. The first one is the election of a new king for Spain: it seems ilogical that just after having exiles Isabella II, the political leaders of the time started looking for a new one, as if they were not capable of governing the country by themselves. The second element that surprised me were the “quintas” and the fact that men who came from wealthy families could avoid being send to Cuba by paying a high amount of money, so it was not a real lottery, as it was said to be.

In my opinion, the video shows perfectly what was happening at that time. One of the most curious things for me, was the term “mambises”. It is exemplary how the small land owners gave the liberty to their slaves in order to achieve their goal: Cuba independization. As they weren´t well prepared, they took advantage of the surprise factor, as the spanish troops weren´t prepared for the tropical ilnesses, especially the yellow fiever, and therefore, were less numbered. Up to here, everything seems simple. The problem, in my point of view, was the “quintas”, and how the descendants of rich families could avoid travelling to the other side of the ocean, while the peasant descendants didn´t have a choice. With this, the soldiers that went to fight didn´t have anything to win, and didn´t fought with the enthusiasm of the insurrectionists.
The video becomes more interesting in thelast minutes: it is obvious why the people didn´t wanted Isabella II as the queen and had preference for Amadeo I. He was more liberal, and easier to control. He would just be a puppet for their interests. But with the sudden murder of General Prim, president of Spain and Amadeo´s most loyal supporter, the start of his short reign will become more lonely than what he expected.

In my opinion this video is a very good one to help you understand why and how the General Serrano’s troops uprised against the monarchy. I believe that the most interesting part is the beginning when it explains how was the new constitution written, on one hand the revolution was good because it supported the constitution and some of its democratic ideas like universal male suffrage and the exile of Isabella II but on the other hand there were mistakes like the ten years war in Cuba, like the fact that women were politically and economically scorned so they couldn’t vote and finally the worst thing was that the Spanish people wanted after a couple of years to be leaded by a king, what was an step backwards.

In my opinion the information more curious in the video and that most caught my attention are the following three.
The fact that the Queen was exiled and after spend a period of time, his son regained the throne, that in certain mode it seems a little cowardly.
The second fact is that is committed an attack against the most important person in the country in that time and is not find out the name of the guilty person or that nobody claimed it .
And finally caught my attention the lack of preevision of the Spanish army in Cuba, which did not have troops for a possible revolution, which was a big mistake.

In my opinion, one of the facts that impressed me the most was when Prim brought a foreigner to be the king of Spain. I can´t understand why revolutionaries wanted Isabella II to exile, but then they still wanted a king. Prim probably chose a foreigner to manipulate him in his own benefit.
Other fact that surprised me was the “quintas”. With the Cuba uprisings, Spain had to send young Spanish people to fight. The “quintas” enabled rich people to avoid crossing the Atlantic Ocean and fight, while peasants were forced to go. The war was likely to be loose, so there wasn´t much enthusiasm in the expedition.
The last part of the video shows very well the use of the violence in that times. I refer to the assassination of Prim, that was one of the hundreds of assassinations of politicians in that times.

In my opinion this is a very good video, not too long and includes the most important points, so it’s very useful. As everyone else in the comments the “Quintas” caught my attention, it reminds me of The Hunger Games. In a time of hope, in which people gained so many rights it must have had been disappointing to become aware that some people still enjoyed special privileges. Also I had never heard about a king elected by the parliament, previously God gave the power to monarchs, and it’s funny that after the revolution they still thought they needed a king or that they could not organise a government by themselves.

I personally believe that this is an extremely accurate and precise video that shows the most important facts of those two years known as the Glorious Revolution. It details with great marvel and surprising precision the happenings of that time, such as Isabelaa II’s exile, universal male suffrage for over 25-year-old citizens, the loss of power from the moderates and carlists and much more. In my opinion, the most important aspects of the video, and the revolurion itself, include the creation of the new, provisional government after Isabella’s expulsion, the drastic changes in politics and the cortes – including the new 1869 Progressive Constitution, the regency of General Serrano and the Cuban Insurrection. These are very interesting facts that are linked and lead to where we are now. It is also very curious how, in Cuba, small land-owners decided to free their slaves simply to help them fight. Even though it seems unfair to free them for their own benefit, in the long-run it would advantage both parties. The “quintas” was also a very interesting concept, as they randomly chose a fifth of their soldiers to take care of the country, that, in hindsight, it makes barely any sense as the chosen ones could’ve all been a bunch of incompetents. Yet again, money takes hold in this type of society, and poor people are the ones who usually fall prey to the “quintas,” while richer families can spare their children. This shows the strong hold capitalism already had on that past-time society, and how it was inescapable if you lacked the wealth. Finally, Amadeo de Savoy’s ascension to the Crown comes, and with it, Prim’s assassination and the climax of all that happened until then. This is a turning point for Amadeo I’s monarchy, as, without his main supporter, he is left to face the republicans and the carlists on his own.
In conclusion, I consider this to be a very informative and interesting video, exalting the most important aspects of the Glorious Revolution, a very important period in Spanish history.

I think this video is really helpful as it explains all the important facts of the Glorious Revolution. The best part of the video was, in my opinion, the one explaining the Democratic Constitution drafted in 1869, because it was the most liberal constitution ever drafted with democratic ideologies. And for the first time in history universal male suffrage was implemented, which allowed every spanish man to vote. Although women’s vote wasn’t yet even thought about, it was a great evolution for the times. Also freedom of religion was permitted and it was set up a parlamentary monarchy, allowing the monarch to reign but not to govern. In conclusion, I think this constitution was a big step to achieve a modern and progressive society and for the first time the King didn’t have the power. However it didn’t last long because with the Bourbon restoration some of this values were modified and a moderate constitution was drafted again, remaining to this days.

I found the video very useful for a better understanding of the historical situation seen in class, in my opinion visual information is always easier and quicker to understand.
The first aspect that catched my attention was the “Quintas”. I found quite interesting the fact that the government defended democratic values such as individual rights and freedom and gave all men the right to vote (although women couldn’t) whether they had money or not, but they couldn’t make such an important decision as joining the military forces if they couldn’t pay the rejection.
The second part that I liked was the end, when Prim gets assassinated. Not because of the fact that he dies but I believe it makes the “story” interesting and it really shows how Amadeo was left alone to govern. I also like the fact that they ended the video there, with an unsolved problem.

In my opinion, this is a really interesting video which really attracted me. From the start to the end. There were some facts which really impressed me and which I found really interesting. At first, it impressed me how fast revolutions happened, in this case the Revolution of 1868. Another fact which I found interesting was that in those years many Constitutions were done but nowadays this not happens. Talking about revolutions, saying that also impressed me that the Constitution of 1869 had that much rights and that much liberal ideas. I also found attractive and interesting the way the Spanish Government selected the militars for the Cuba War. This way of selecting them was called: “Reclutamiento de Quintas”. This system really impressed me and the fact that people could pay for not going to the war, I also found this issue very bad for equality. Finally, the last thing to say from this interesting video is that, in my opinion, the abdications in the monarchy were done really soon and that with 13 years a person is not completely prepared for having that responsability.

The Glorious Revlution:
From my point of view this revolution it’s a dramatic point of change in the history of our country. Starting from there, universal male suffrage was proclaimed and succesfully done and civil rights were establiches. However corrpution was still present, as we can see how rich families were able not to send their sons to war and evade the quintas.
